Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, R Ashoka, has urged Bengaluru residents to write to the Governor, President and Prime Minister alleging irregularities in the city’s garbage disposal system and demanding action to protect the future of the city.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Ashoka said citizens should actively participate in a letter-writing campaign to highlight what he described as a major issue affecting Bengaluru’s residents.

Calls for public campaign

Ashoka appealed to apartment associations, resident welfare groups, senior citizens, students and other organisations to raise their concerns with constitutional authorities.

“This will become a burden on the people of Bengaluru. Citizens should conduct a letter campaign and seek intervention to safeguard the city’s future,” he said.

The BJP leader claimed the issue would have long-term implications for Bengaluru and called for greater public involvement in demanding accountability.

Demands independent inquiry

Ashoka said he had already written to a high-level committee examining the matter and urged it to submit an impartial report.

He also reiterated his demand for a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities, stating that he would support handing over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if necessary.

According to him, any decision on a CBI probe would require the cooperation of the state government.

Criticises state leadership

During the press conference, Ashoka levelled allegations against the state leadership and questioned decisions related to long-term garbage management contracts.

He maintained that his intervention was aimed at representing public concerns rather than pursuing political gains.

The remarks come amid an ongoing political debate over waste management policies and contract allocations in Bengaluru, with opposition parties seeking greater transparency in the process.

The state government is yet to issue a detailed response to the latest allegations
