Bengaluru: The Voluntary Consumer Citizen Advocacy Network (VCAN), Karnataka is the latest to pitch a ‘Consumer Manifesto’ to political parties.
“Several citizen groups, farmers, industry associations, marginalised sections of society are putting pressure on parties to include their aspirations, interests and concerns in manifestoes. However, consumers have not made an attempt,” the VCAN told political parties.
The major demands are ensuring safe food, effective implementation of Sakala, strengthening RTI Act, use of Kannada in consumer products and services, a Consumer Protection Policy, separate ministry or directorate for consumer protection, strengthening Consumer Grievance Redressal Forums, constitution of State/District Consumer Protection Councils, re-constituting State Consumer Welfare Fund and Citizen/Customer Charters.
