Bengaluru: The Karnataka Assembly convened today, July 22, around an hour after 11 AM, the scheduled time. The Speaker apologised for the delay stating that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and others were having a meeting.

Earlier, speaking to CNN-News18, Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar assured that the trust vote will take place before 6 PM today. “The rebels will be marked absent if they don’t show up,” he added.

Once the session began, Speaker Ramesh said that he had to give a ruling on former CM Siddaramaiah’s point of order that SC’s interim order has curtailed the party’s right to issue a whip to its members under the 10th Schedule.

“As the Speaker, I have to send notices to the MLAs to attend the session,” he said about the petition raised by Siddaramaiah.

He then issued notices to the 15 rebel MLAs, directed them to meet him at 11 AM tomorrow at his office, to record their responses on their disqualification.

The Speaker then reminded everyone to be mindful of the time limit since the trust vote has to be concluded by the day’s end.
