Bengaluru: The Kothanur Police under city’s east division nabbed 3 accused in connection with the ATM cash heist and recovered Rs 5.29 Lakh from them.
Satish (32), Manjunath (21) and Sunil Kumar (24), all residents of Ramamurthy Nagar in the city, were nabbed by the police.
The accused were nabbed while speeding towards Gubbi Cross from Hennur Cross in an auto rickshaw bearing registration number KA-53-A4610, which belonged to Sunil Kumar among the trio, at 3 AM on February 10. On suspicion, the night beat constables stationed near Byrathi Cross chased the auto and confiscated the cash valued at Rs 5.29 Lakh, with the assistance of senior police officers. Police found currency notes of denomination Rs 2000 and Rs 500 strewn around the rear seat and the accused Satish and Sunil Kumar were in an inebriated state.
During investigation, Kothanur Police found that Sunil and Manjunath were employed as custodians at Radiant Cash Management Service (p) Ltd. They were involved in replenishing cash at ATMs of major banks and managed to get access to master keys and admin ATM cards during the course of their duty. They managed to trick the bank audit teams, as each accused managed to adjust the shortfall in cash taking help from the other accused and continued doing the same by taking turns.
Satish had looted Rs 10,32,000 from Canara Bank ATMs at T C Palya and Hennur, while Manjunath managed to take away Rs 52000 from Union Bank ATM at Ramamurthynagar. They led lavish lives using stolen cash, until they ran out of luck.
Police seized the master keys, admin ATM cards and several other ATM cards of leading banks from the accused trio, along with the auto rickshaw and cash valued at Rs 5.32 Lakh.
The accused trio has been remanded to judicial custody.
