Bengaluru: Bengaluru-based PhD research student Atreyee Majumdar, 35, who has been missing since April 4, has been found, said Marathalli police.

“Atreyee Majumdar was at Hotel Taj Vivanta on MG Road. We found her suffering from depression. We have shifted her to NIMHANS for treatment,’’ Marathahalli Police Sub Inspector told.

Atreyee Majumdar, an anthropologist and an alumnus of the National Law School of India University was earlier believed to have had left her house out of her own choice.

Atreyee’s father Biplab Majumder filed a complaint on April 5, stating that his daughter, who left home at 9 pm the previous day, did not return or contacted them.

She had reached Bengaluru on April 4 from Toronto. On reaching home, she had reportedly headed directly to her room to take rest. At about 9 pm she had ventured out of her home with her purse, even leaving behind her mobile phone, her father told.

It is said that the lady had then lived in two hotels after leaving home-Novotel Hotel in Marthahalli and Marriot Hotel in Bellandur.

CCTV footage shows Atreyee checking out on April 6 all alone.

Apart from NLSUI, Atreyee studied at Yale before going to Toronto for post-doctoral research with a fellowship from the Andrew W Mellon Foundation.
