Bengaluru: The High Court on Tuesday asked the Central government to submit a statement by Friday on actions initiated to create awareness about fundamental duties of the citizens enshrined in the Constitution, while pointing out that the Centre had not done enough in this regard despite a direction given by the apex court in 2003.Justice A.N. Venugoapal Gowda issued the direction while hearing a petition filed by a film producer seeking censorship even for television programmes, through which the court has been making suggestions to the State and Central governments to create awareness among people on their fundamental duties.
Counsel for the Union government said that efforts were being made to create awareness and pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had himself touched upon the topic of fundamental duties in his Mann ki Baat radio talk. The counsel made the judge listen to excerpts of the talk by playing a recorded version using a mobile phone.
