Bengaluru: The Supreme Court on Friday, August 10, directed a Bengaluru City Court to decide on a matter related to a woman’s complaint of sexual assault and cheating against Karthik Gowda, son of Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, without being influenced by the observations of the High Court.
The woman had approached the court through a SLP (Special Leave Petition), which was later disposed of by Justice Arun Mishra and Indira Banerjee. The SLP was filed against the Karnataka High Court’s order of 16, December 2016.
The 30-year-old woman had filed a complaint with the RT Nagar police alleging sexual assault by Karthik Gowda on August 27, 2014. According to her complaint, Karthik had performed sexual acts with her several times on the promise of marriage.
According to the final police report filed on September 6, 2015, there was no evidence of rape, however, since the woman was seen with Karthik in public, they could only register a case of criminal breach of trust.
Karthik had moved the High Court seeking to dismiss the case against him. His plea was allowed by the HC after which victim approached the SC against the HC’s order.
