Bengaluru: The Central Election Committee of the Congress party has fielded B K Hariprasad as its candidate from the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency.
In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, Hariprasad was defeated by BJP candidate Anant Kumar. Since then, Kumar had not lost a single election in the Bengaluru South constituency, till he died last year.
Right now, rumours are rife that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting from Bengaluru South, a stronghold of the BJP, but this has not yet been confirmed by the party leadership.
Earlier, the BJP was planning to field Tejaswini, wife of late Anant Kumar as its candidate.
So far, the Congress party had withheld the announcement of its candidate for Bengaluru South in the wake of rumours about PM Modi would be contesting here. However, in their ninth list of candidates, they announced B K Hariprasad as their candidate
