Bakery owner stabbed to death

Bengaluru: The owner of a bakery was stabbed to death after a fight with a customer over a trivial matter at Baiyappanahalli late on Sunday.

Around 9.30 p.m., Murali (48) was manning his bakery at Ambedkar Nagar when Jairaj, a daily wager with criminal antecedents, walked in to buy a cigarette. According to the complaint filed at the Baiyappanahalli Police Station, an argument erupted between the two as Jairaj was unhappy with Murali’s tone. Other customers intervened and managed to diffuse the situation. However, when Murali was closing his shop later in the night, Jairaj allegedly barged in and stabbed him repeatedly, said the police.

Two bakery employees suffered injuries when they attempted to save Murali. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries around midnight. Baiyappanahalli police have booked a case and arrested Jairaj.

One killed in accident

A 48-year-old man was killed when he rammed into a goods van near Hebbal on Sunday around 9.15 p.m. The deceased, Govind Raju, is a cloth merchant. According to the police, he was heading to his home at Hebbal when he rammed into a truck carrying Avarekai from Ananthpur towards the city. Mr. Raju was pronounced dead on being taken to a hospital. Hebbal traffic police have filed a case against Suresh, the driver of the truck.
