With Bengaluru Metro’s revised fare structure kicking in from Sunday, commuters are fuming over skyrocketing ticket prices, making it the costliest among all metro networks in India. In response, netizens launched the #RevokeMetroFareHike campaign, voicing their frustration online.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticized the hike, calling it counterproductive. “Instead of making public transport more accessible, the Karnataka government is discouraging Metro usage with this hike,” he posted on X. Comparing fares, he pointed out that while a 12 km ride in Delhi Metro costs Rs 30, Bengaluru commuters must shell out Rs 60—double the price. The maximum fare increase from Rs 60 to Rs 90 is excessive, he added.

Echoing concerns, Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan labeled it an “unfair financial burden” and called for transparency. He urged BMRCL to release the Fare Fixation Committee Report and introduce monthly, quarterly, and annual passes to ease expenses for daily commuters.

Most expensive Metro fare in India

Compared to other cities, Kolkata Metro remains the cheapest, with fares ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 50, and a 25-30 km ride costing only Rs 25. In contrast, Chennai Metro charges Rs 50, Delhi Metro Rs 60, while Bengaluru Metro’s new highest fare stands at Rs 90, making it the costliest urban transit in India.
