Bangalore University (BU) has announced plans to establish a cutting-edge sports complex, starting with a synthetic track. The decision was taken during a recent syndicate meeting, the university’s highest decision-making body.

Following the trifurcation of BU, many sports facilities were allocated to Bengaluru City University, leaving the Jnana Bharathi campus and affiliated BU colleges with limited infrastructure. To address this, the syndicate has proposed constructing a sports hostel and a comprehensive sports complex.

BU Vice-Chancellor Jayakar Shetty emphasized the importance of holistic student development. “Equal importance must be given to sports and cultural activities alongside education. Adequate infrastructure is essential, and steps will be taken to gradually establish these facilities in a suitable location on campus,” Shetty stated.

The director of physical education has been tasked with identifying a suitable site and drafting a detailed construction plan for the project. This initiative is expected to enhance opportunities for students in sports and extracurricular activities, fostering all-round development.
