Bengaluru: After many years of expectation, Bannerghatta Biological Park will receive a special guest soon. Yes, officials have completed all preparations to transport a female giraffe from Mysuru Jayachamarajendra Zoological Garden on March 13.
The three-year-old giraffe Babli born to Krishnaraja and Khushi giraffes will be transported to Bannerghatta Biological Park. All preparations are being done for the giraffe, at the 2 ½ acres of land at the left side of the main door of the park.
There is a trench around the place, along with the fence. To take rest during the night, a 40- feet high holding room has been cleared. The Bannerghatta officials had made all attempts to get one giraffe, but all went in vain. They however did not think of getting the animal from other countries owing to the cost involved.
Finally, with the help of Zoo Member Secretary Ravi, the officials succeeded in getting giraffe from the Mysuru Zoo. Soon after the green signal, two staffs were sent to Mysuru to get training and mingle with the animal, said BBP official.
Permission has been given to transfer two giraffes- Babli and Mary to Bannerghatta, but for the time being only Babli will be transferred. Though the place is new for giraffes, their caretakers- Shankar and Basava are the same, said the medical officer of the BBP.
