Bengaluru: Former senior Janata Dal (Secular) politician and chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti joined the BJP on Tuesday May 3 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Former Chief Minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shettar and Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary were also present.
According to sources, he is expected to run for the BJP in the upcoming Legislative Council elections from the West Teachers’ constituency.
As the face of JD (S), Horatti was elected as MLC for seven times in a row since 1980. In February 2021, he was elected Chairman of the Legislative Council after serving as State Education Minister.
However, his association with the JD(S) came to an end last month.
Speaking to mediapersons in Hubballi he said that his decision to join the BJP was based on discussions with former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa and BJP national President J. P. Nadda, during which they invited him to join the party.
