Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities have cleared 180 footpath encroachments in all wards of the Mahadevpura zone, much to the relief of the pedestrians.
Permanent fixtures on the footpaths, that were previously ignored by the BBMP, were also demolished in the clearance drive. This is only round one of the BBMP’s drive to clear the footpaths.
According to sources at the BBMP, the next round of the encroachment removal drive will take place once the vendors’ documents are verified. “Most of them may have legitimate permissions. We will have to verify their details before penalising them,” said the source.
The next target of the BBMP is likely to be Sarjapura Road as members of Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Bellandur have approached Mayor R. Sampath Raj, demanding that Sarjapur Road, Haralur Road, Bellandur Main Road and Kasavanahalli Road be turned into no-vending zones. A meeting between the RWAs and the mayor is expected to be held on Saturday regarding this issue.
