Bengaluru: In preparation for the upcoming Ganeshotsava, Chief Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Tushar Girinath, has issued comprehensive instructions to ensure the festival’s smooth and safe celebration. The guidelines cover a range of precautionary measures, including security arrangements, infrastructure maintenance, and environmental concerns.
Chief Commissioner Girinath has made it clear that there are no restrictions on the installation of Ganapati idols, with the BBMP committed to granting permissions within 24 hours of application. To facilitate the festival, he has instructed the establishment of monitoring centers across 63 sub-divisional offices. These centers will be staffed with personnel tasked with overseeing the celebrations and ensuring adherence to guidelines.
To prevent any incidents during Ganesh Chaturthi, enhanced security measures will be in place. The Chief Commissioner has ordered increased security at key immersion sites, including Kalyani and 42 lakes known for idol immersions. Ambulances and fire tenders will be stationed at these locations to respond quickly in case of emergencies. Additionally, tankers will be arranged to handle the discharge of Ganapana (idol immersion) efficiently.
Facilities at these sites will be upgraded to include thoroughly cleaned toilets, barricades, CCTV cameras, electric islands, skilled swimmers, and cranes to aid in the immersion process. These measures aim to provide a safe and orderly environment for devotees and manage the large influx of participants during the festival.
To ensure the safety of processions, the Chief Commissioner has directed BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company) officials to inspect and secure power lines along the procession routes. Roads leading to these routes will be checked for damage and repaired as necessary to avoid any accidents or disruptions.
A dress code for staff working during Ganesh bhaskar (idol immersion) at Kalyanis has been implemented to enhance safety and professionalism. Home guards will be deployed to maintain order and prevent any incidents during the festival.
In line with environmental concerns, Chief Commissioner Girinath has stressed the importance of promoting eco-friendly celebrations. Officials have been instructed to inspect manufacturing units producing Plaster of Paris (POP) Ganesh idols, with actions to be taken against those found violating regulations. Temporary mobile discharge units will be set up at key locations for the disposal of Ganesh idols installed in homes, helping to manage waste and reduce environmental impact.
The Chief Commissioner’s directives aim to ensure a safe, organized, and environmentally conscious celebration of Ganeshotsava in Bengaluru. By implementing these measures, the BBMP seeks to manage the large-scale festivities effectively while addressing safety and environmental concerns.
