Bengaluru: The BBMP’s cost-cutting initiative, on Monday met failure and became a laughing stock for many. The BBMP decided to order food from the Indira Canteen during its monthly meet. However, the food did not impress the corporators and almost every corporator and officer ended up either going out for lunch or ordering food from some hotel.
According to the authorities, a total of 500 lunch packs were ordered from the canteen, but at least 300 packs were sent back to the canteen as the corpoprators refused to eat it stating that the food tasted bad. However, only a few prominent individuals like Mayor Gangambika Devi, Commissioner N Manjunath among others relished the canteen food without complaining about the taste. The menu included curd rice and pulao.
According to the sources, all these days, the BBMP was spending Rs. 280 per lunch served to the corporators and the canteen food cost a mere Rs 10 per pack on Monday. It is said that despite the opposition, canteen food will be served on Tuesday as well.
