BBMP election: Reservation increased from 33% to 50%

Bengaluru: The State Government issued an ordinance increasing the reservation for SC, ST, and OBCs to 50% in the BBMP from the existing 33%.

Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot signed this ordinance. This decision comes amidst the Supreme Court deadline for election to BBMP in the next 8 weeks.

As per the ordinance, the OBCs will get 27% reservation in BBMP which was 10% earlier. According to the sources, a decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting held on May 30.

It can be recalled that as per the revised ward list, the number of wards in the BBMP area has been increased to 243 from earlier 198.
