Bengaluru: Last year, the city of Bengaluru faced a nightmare situation when rains flooded the city and wreaked havoc. Several people lost their lives and many others suffered injuries and damage to property. Keeping in mind the last years’ fiasco, the BBMP has formed three teams for the purpose of checking the valleys across the city.
On August 23, Mayor of Bengaluru city R Sampath Raj held a meeting with stormwater drains (SWD) engineers to discuss the matter. During the meeting, it was suggested that additional officers be brought in to check for problems near the four valleys namely, Koramangala, Challaghatta and Vrishabhavathi valley and Hebbal valley, so that a solution could be formulated to avoid waterlogging.
Each team, headed by a supervisor, is tasked with checking if rainwater is flowing via the designated routes uninterrupted, a chief stormwater drain engineer said.
