Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a notification on Wednesday May 25 giving Zonal Commissioners additional administrative and financial powers. BBMP Chief Tushar Giri Nath signed the notification in this regard.
While the State Government appointed Zonal Commissioners to the civic agency’s eight zones in April 2021 to improve coordination during the Covid – 19 pandemic, they were required to work with Joint Commissioners and the Chief Commissioner, with little control over administrative and financial matters.
According to the new notification, the approval of Zonal Commissioners will be required for administrative and executive works, but revenue, forest, animal husbandry, infrastructure, stormwater drains, engineering, health, and town planning departments will operate under their heads.
