Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner has claimed that 50 percent of the deadly potholes in the city have been closed.

BBMP drew brickbats after the potholes caused accidents and eventually also resulted in loss of lives. There was a massive public outrage against the state government in the backdrop of fatal accidents on city roads. The pothole filling work was affected for many days due to incessant rains lashing the city.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, during his city rounds, had clearly instructed BBMP officials to shut all the potholes in its limits within 15 days time.

Workers are doing their job round the clock to meet the deadline like “needles of a clock”, said BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad, hoping to close all the potholes by Monday, October 23.

Even officials are working without availing the Diwali holidays to meet the deadline and 50 percent of potholes have been closed, Prasad claimed.

Hot asphalt mixture has been employed for closing potholes since rains have subsided as cold mix with a life of 2-3 months is not long lasting, he said.

The BBMP has already issued a list of roads that are in ruins and repairing such roads is the duty of the contractors failing which action will be initiated against them, commissioner Prasad warned.
