With the onset of the rainy season, officials emphasize the importance of proactive measures to prevent mosquito breeding and mitigate the risk of diseases such as dengue.
Preventive Actions and Source Reduction
BBMP officials urge citizens to identify and eliminate stagnant water sources where mosquitoes breed. Adopting a system for source reduction, teams conduct surveys to identify areas prone to mosquito breeding, particularly in the aftermath of reported dengue cases. Residents are advised to dispose of waste responsibly and ensure proper drainage of rainwater to prevent water accumulation.
Fogging and Mosquito-Control Spraying
To target larger areas at risk of mosquito infestation, BBMP has enlisted private agencies to conduct fogging operations. Spraying activities are carried out periodically in all wards to curb mosquito populations. Officials emphasize the need for consistent efforts to prevent a significant rise in mosquito numbers.
Public Awareness and Health Precautions
Dr. Syed Sirajuddin Madini, Chief Health Officer at BBMP, underscores the importance of citizen participation in mosquito-control efforts. Residents are advised to observe a weekly ‘dry day’ to empty and dry water storage containers, minimizing mosquito breeding opportunities. Additionally, practicing personal protective measures such as wearing full clothing and using mosquito nets can help prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
