In a bid to streamline waste management and enhance cleanliness, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has introduced user charges for waste collection, effective from April 1, 2025. These charges, which are based on the size of the property, will be levied monthly to both residential and commercial buildings across the city.
For residential buildings with an area of up to 600 square feet, the monthly waste charge will be Rs 10, amounting to Rs 120 annually. As the size of the property increases, so will the charges. For larger residential buildings, such as those with an area of 4,000 square feet or more, the monthly fee will rise to Rs 400, or Rs 4,800 annually.
Commercial buildings, on the other hand, will be charged at a rate of Rs 12 per kilogram of waste generated each month. Additionally, BBMP has announced that these user charges will increase by 5% annually.
This move aims to address Bengaluru’s growing waste management needs while encouraging more sustainable waste disposal practices. The new fees are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve its waste collection services and promote a cleaner environment.
