Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is thinking of live broadcasting of council sessions. The proposal has been designed on the basis of ‘Janagraha’ survey, BBMP Special Commissioner B M Vijayashankar said.
The live broadcast plays a major role in the participation of people in the decision-making process. People can observe how their elected members participate in the discussions, which member raises the issues and speaks on it etc. Based on their efficiency and participation, people can decide on various aspects including whether the elected representative is worthy of getting re-elected not.
“People observe the behavior of corporators. So, unwanted incidents in the meeting and hurdles can be avoided. Members will have the sense that people are watching them and they will be careful. Anyhow, the final decision would be taken only after the advice of Mayor and Commissioner,” Vijayashankar said.
When Roshan Baig was the minister for information and public broadcast, there was a proposal of live telecast of the Assembly sessions with a separate channel. However, that was ruled out later.
