Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) zonal officials have been directed to intensify efforts to collect property taxes for 2024-25 in their respective areas.

Officials have been instructed to visit properties with outstanding dues and ensure timely payments. Out of the targeted Rs 5,210 crore, the civic body has successfully gathered Rs 4,604 crore, achieving 88.36% of the goal.

With only two weeks remaining in the financial year, officers have been urged to recover the remaining Rs 606 crore to meet the revenue objective. BBMP Special Commissioner Munish Moudgil has emphasized strict follow-ups on commercial establishments and businesses with large outstanding dues.

Among the eight BBMP zones, Yelahanka leads with 99.97% collection, having secured Rs 445.15 crore out of Rs 445.24 crore. Meanwhile, Bommanahalli lags behind, reaching only 80.06% of its Rs 585.11 crore target, with Rs 468.48 crore collected.

Mahadevapura zone, which has the highest target of Rs 1,309.04 crore, has managed to collect Rs 1,223.30 crore, marking 93.45% progress.

BBMP officials, employing various recovery strategies, including a One-Time Settlement Scheme and auctioning properties of defaulters, are optimistic about exceeding Rs 5,000 crore in tax collection this year.
