Bengaluru: According to the sources, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was shut down Mantri Square Mall in Bengaluru for three hours on Monday November 15 due to unpaid property tax dues. It was reportedly opened after the owners requested a 15-day extension from the BBMP to pay the remaining dues.
As per the reports, the mall was already closed for the same reason over a month ago. Officials from the BBMP previously stated that the mall owes around Rs. 39 crore in property taxes from 2018-19.
According to the Regional Commissioner, Mantri Mall and nearby Mantri Greens Apartment had already been in trouble for encroaching on BBMP land and the BBMP wanted to demolish parts of the building.
High Court in March 2020 brought in a stay for the demolition of parts of the structure.
