Bengaluru: After public criticism, the BBMP slashed the penalty for not wearing masks from Rs.1,000 to Rs.200.
According to the first order, Rs.1,000 fine was imposed for the first time offense while it was Rs.2,000 for repeated offenders. But now an uniform fine of Rs.200 fine will be imposed on all the offenses.
But all the other city corporations continue to impose a penalty of Rs.500 for not wearing mask.
According to the sources in the BBMP, the fine amount was slashed as per the suggestion issued by the state health department, which pointed out that even kerchief mask too can be considered as a mask.
“Starting from Wednesday Rs.200 fine will be collected,” said BBMP officials.
