Bengaluru: To carryout any business or trade in the city, the first thing one should do is apply for a trade license with the BBMP.

The BBMP issues trade license after receiving license fee which is Rs.5,000 per year. But according to a recent survey carried out by the BBMP, in the city limits 1.3 lakh traders are operating their business illegaly.

This survey was carried out using the BESCOM data on the electricity connection and the tariff.

As per the survey, only 50,124 trade licenses are issued in the BBMP.

With 50,274 illegal traders, West Zone registers highest number of traders running business without license.

Now the BBMP has decided to initiate action against all the illegal traders by collection a fine.

This issue was raised by Rajya Sabha member Rajiv Chandrasekar in November 2019.

“Trade license is one of the major source of revenue for the BBMP. But due to the corruption, these illegal traders are able to function without any fear,” informed BBMP sources.
