Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the division of the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) will be completed by September 15, paving the way for the formation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).
Speaking after a meeting at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said a notification has already been issued from May 15, initiating the 120-day timeline to establish new municipal corporations under the GBA. “I will consult the Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka and a few more MLAs to gather suggestions. A final plan will be placed before the Cabinet,” he said.
The Deputy CM has sought input from all Bengaluru MLAs on how many corporations should be carved out from the existing BBMP. Decisions on future expansions will depend on this feedback.
Meanwhile, emergency measures are being taken in rain-affected areas, with local authorities empowered to act swiftly. The required budget for such interventions will be supported by the state.
Addressing the city’s water crisis, he noted that complaints related to water tanker supply will be addressed with timely seasonal actions.
On the issue of street vendors, the government will clear all footpath encroachments. “We’ve already registered 27,665 vendors, and 3,755 have requested pushcarts. Vendors must operate only in designated vending zones,” he emphasized, warning that no political pressure will be entertained during implementation.
