A tragic accident near Thanisandra railway bridge on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy, K Iman Mutaki, while his father, Khader Ali, sustained injuries. Their two-wheeler was rear-ended by a speeding BBMP garbage truck, triggering outrage among locals.
The accident occurred at 12:10 PM when Ali and his son were returning home. The truck, driven by Kodanda, hit their vehicle from behind, causing Iman to fall to the right side, directly under the truck’s front wheels. The boy died on the spot.
Furious over reckless BBMP truck drivers, a mob set the vehicle ablaze. Residents pointed out frequent accidents involving these trucks, citing a similar tragedy earlier this year where two sisters were run over by a BBMP truck.
Police have arrested Kodanda, confirming that he was not intoxicated. Authorities are now tracking the contractor responsible for the truck’s operations. Meanwhile, locals are demanding stricter driver training and accountability to prevent further tragedies.
