BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao on Sunday assured residents of Sai Layout, Mahadevapura zone, that a permanent solution will be implemented to tackle the area’s chronic waterlogging problem. This follows Saturday’s heavy downpour, which submerged several parts of the city.
Rao said officials were on the ground until 1 a.m., monitoring the situation. Sai Layout, developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), suffers due to its low-lying position relative to the stormwater drain (SWD). Additionally, a narrow railway vent restricts water flow, worsening the issue. Coordination with the Railways is underway to widen the vent, while desilting of the SWD has been ordered.
Temporary measures such as jackwells and pumps will be deployed, and a special task force will monitor the setup. Homes affected by flooding will receive relief under disaster management provisions, Rao added.
Elsewhere, waterlogging near Manpho, close to Manyata Tech Park, prompted Rao to call for a joint meeting with stakeholders including Karle Infra, EBS IT Park, and Manyata developers to build a new SWD system.
Meanwhile, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy slammed the Congress-led state government, accusing it of mismanagement and corruption. “Bengaluru sinks in heavy rain and floats in light rain,” he quipped, calling the city “Looters’ Bengaluru”. Targeting DCM D.K. Shivakumar, he ridiculed lavish tenders and neglected infrastructure, saying potholes and open drains rule the roads.
