Bengaluru: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has received crucial clearance from South Western Railway (SWR) to begin launching girders over the Hebbal railway track, a key step in completing the long-pending additional ramp at Hebbal junction.

A 33.5-metre girder will be installed over the active Yeshwantpur-Omalur rail line, supporting a new four-lane road. To facilitate this, SWR has approved a line block and rail traffic suspension between midnight and 3am across four nights (May 17–20). This line is vital for both passenger and freight services, so multiple rounds of consultation were needed before SWR gave the green signal.

Due to partial closure of the Hebbal flyover during these hours, traffic from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) towards the city may be diverted. BDA and traffic police are working together to redirect vehicles via BEL Circle or Nagawara, with potential to keep one lane towards Mehkri Circle open.

BDA officials confirmed that seven girders are at the site. Two girders will be launched per night for the first three days and one on the final day, using eight cranes. Preliminary work, including utility removal, has already been completed.

The new ramp will connect to the KR Pura loop of Hebbal flyover, eventually linking to the loop near the tree forest, aiding commuters from Esteem Mall and Tumakuru Road. Originally intended for airport traffic, the ramp will now benefit those from Nagawara and the NH service road.

The project, delayed for years, now targets completion by May 2025.
