A 23-year-old beautician has accused a police vehicle driver of robbing her of valuables near the Nelamangala police station during the early hours of May 13. The victim, referred to as Ramya (name changed), filed a formal complaint alleging that she was assaulted and forced to hand over ₹2.5 lakh in cash and a gold chain valued at ₹1.5 lakh.
Ramya, originally from Shivamogga and currently staying in a PG accommodation in MS Palya, Bengaluru, had travelled by bus carrying the cash and jewellery — gifts from her mother meant to help her launch a beauty parlour business. She disembarked near the 8th Mile on Tumakuru Road around 1:30 am.
With her phone battery drained, Ramya began walking toward a nearby hospital to recharge her device. She was then approached by a police jeep. The driver, clad in khaki and wearing a name badge that read “Girijesh,” offered her a ride.
According to her complaint, when she declined the lift, the driver allegedly coerced her into the vehicle. Near Nelamangala police station, he reportedly snatched her vanity bag, seized the cash and jewellery, and physically attacked her when she resisted.
Ramya managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle. She reached the highway and was helped by a passerby who dropped her back at 8th Mile. She later returned to her PG and approached the authorities.
Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to assault and violation of a woman’s dignity. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and the accused, identified as Girijesh — confirmed to be a jeep driver with Nelamangala rural police — will soon be summoned for questioning.
