Bengaluru: BEML Limited announced on Tuesday that it has secured a contract from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to design, manufacture, and commission two high-speed trainsets valued at ₹866.87 crore. These eight-coach trainsets are set to operate at a maximum speed of 249 km/h and are intended for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, commonly referred to as the bullet train project, with deployment expected by 2027.
Each trainset will cost ₹27.86 crore, and the total contract includes various components such as design costs, one-time development costs, non-recurring charges, and investments in jigs, fixtures, tooling, and testing facilities that will be utilized for future high-speed projects in India.
BEML emphasized that this project represents a significant milestone in India’s high-speed rail initiative, as it will feature the first indigenously designed and manufactured trainsets, with a test speed of 280 km/h. The construction will take place at BEML’s Bengaluru rail coach complex, with scheduled delivery by the end of 2026.
The new trainsets will offer a fully air-conditioned, chair-car configuration with modern amenities, including reclining and rotatable seats, special provisions for passengers with restricted mobility, and onboard infotainment systems.
