Sudarshan Kamath, the founder of Smallest AI, has sparked discussions online with his unconventional hiring strategy for a software engineer role at his Bengaluru-based firm. He announced that applicants do not need to submit resumes or academic qualifications to be considered for the position, which offers an annual salary of ₹40 lakh and a five-day workweek. The opportunity is open to candidates with up to two years of experience and is based in Indiranagar.
Taking to X, Mr. Kamath posted, “We’re looking for an exceptional full-stack engineer at Smallest AI… Just send a short 100-word introduction and links to your best work to info@smallest.ai.”
The phrase “cracked full-stack engineer” is an informal term, often used to describe an exceptionally talented and versatile developer skilled in both front-end and back-end technologies. Here, “cracked” likely implies someone highly proficient, innovative, and quick at problem-solving.
While many lauded Kamath’s emphasis on skills over degrees, others questioned whether the salary was competitive enough for such a role.
One user remarked, “If you’re calling it a ‘cracked’ role, the pay should match. Otherwise, it’s not a great look for your company.” Another pointed out the high cost of living in Indiranagar, estimating that after taxes and expenses, savings would be minimal.
