Bengaluru’s Bommanahalli police have arrested two women, including an autorickshaw driver, in connection with a string of house burglaries carried out over the past two years.
The accused—38-year-old Shabrin Taj and her 22-year-old relative Neelam, who drove the autorickshaw—resided in DJ Halli. According to police, Neelam would scout for locked houses while ferrying passengers. Once a target was identified, she would return with Shabrin to execute the theft.
Investigators said the women primarily operated in Bommanahalli and MICO Layout areas. The stolen goods, mainly gold ornaments, were sold to jewellery shops located in DJ Halli and Tannery Road.
Police recovered over ₹11 lakh worth of valuables, including around 130 grams of gold jewellery, which were traced back from the jewellery stores. The autorickshaw used during the crimes has also been seized.
The breakthrough came after a complaint was lodged at the Bommanahalli police station following a theft in Garvebhavipalya. Acting on leads, the suspects were detained on April 2 near Adugodi traffic signal and later taken into nine days of police custody.
Following interrogation, police issued notices to the jewellery store owners involved, demanding they return the stolen ornaments bought from the accused. Both women are currently in judicial custody.
