Bengaluru: An elderly auto-rickshaw driver from Bengaluru has captured the hearts of millions on social media for his touching daily tribute to his late wife, eight years after her passing.
The emotional story came to light through an Instagram video shared by content creator Asish Matthew, which has garnered over 2.8 million views.
The video begins at a traffic signal in Indiranagar, where Matthew notices the elderly driver carefully placing fresh flowers inside his auto-rickshaw before beginning his day. Curious, he approaches the driver and asks about the ritual.
The driver quietly points to a framed photograph inside the vehicle and says, “That’s my wife.“
A ritual of love that continues
According to the video, the driver’s wife passed away eight years ago. Since then, he has made it a daily practice to offer fresh flowers before her photographs, which are displayed inside his auto, turning the vehicle into a moving tribute to her memory.
Despite having a loving family, including a son, daughter-in-law and six grandchildren, the driver admits that he still deeply misses his wife and carries her memory with him every day.
The video also reveals that although his son has encouraged him to retire and stay at home, the elderly man prefers to continue driving his auto. He believes that meeting new people and staying busy helps him cope with the loss.
