Bengaluru auto-rickshaw fares could increase this month, pending the outcome of a crucial meeting on March 12. Auto unions have long demanded a revision, citing rising costs. In the last 11 years, fares have been adjusted only twice, with the latest revision in November 2021 setting a base fare of ₹30 for 1.9 km and ₹15 per additional km.

The Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU) and the Adarsh Auto and Taxi Drivers’ Union (AATDU) are pushing for a base fare of ₹40 and ₹20 per km. However, some unions fear that higher prices may deter passengers.

The District Transport Authority (DTA), led by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G, oversees fare revisions. A five-member committee, chaired by DCP (Traffic-East) Sahil Bagla, will assess fuel costs, traffic, and demand before recommending changes. Their report will determine whether a hike is implemented.

While the timeline remains uncertain, union leaders are optimistic about an increase later this month.
