Starting August 1, autorickshaw fares in Bengaluru will rise, as per a fresh notification from the District Transport Authority (DTA). The revised base fare will be ₹36 for the first two kilometres, up from the current ₹30. Each additional kilometre will now cost ₹18 instead of ₹15. Night-time rides between 10 pm and 5 am will incur 1.5 times the standard rates.

Drivers must recalibrate and officially stamp their meters reflecting the new tariffs by October 31.

This adjustment comes nearly four years after the last fare hike. Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G, who also heads the DTA, approved the increase following recommendations from a five-member committee. This panel examined road conditions, commuter patterns, and held consultations with stakeholders in March.

The Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU) and the Adarsh Auto and Taxi Drivers’ Union (AATDU) had demanded steeper rates—a ₹40 base fare and ₹20 per kilometre charge. However, the committee only sanctioned about a 20% hike.

Initially, authorities hesitated to raise fares, worried that affordable bike taxis would undermine auto drivers. But after bike taxis were banned from June 16, the government moved ahead with the decision.

In over a decade, Bengaluru’s auto fares have been revised just twice, the last adjustment occurring in November 2021.
