Bengaluru: The city is set to experience widespread service interruptions on Wednesday, July 9, as over 25 crore workers nationwide prepare for a Bharat Bandh. Being a major hub for both public and private sectors, Bengaluru is likely to feel the impact across multiple areas.
A coalition of ten central trade unions and allied organisations has called for the massive strike to protest what they describe as the government’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate policies.”
Banking services are expected to be significantly affected, with unions including the Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Association and the All India Bank Employees Association joining the agitation. Customers could face delays in cheque clearance, loan processing, and general banking assistance. Insurance workers will also participate, potentially impacting policy-related services.
Postal services may slow down due to employee participation, while government offices might witness staffing shortages, leading to administrative delays.
Transport services, including BMTC and KSRTC buses, have not officially announced service suspension, but commuters should prepare for possible delays or cancellations. Coal and electricity sector workers are also joining, which could cause minor power disruptions.
Educational institutions are expected to remain open since no holiday has been declared, but attendance may be lower due to transport concerns.
Many IT firms and private companies are monitoring the situation closely and may adopt work-from-home plans if needed. Deliveries and app-based services could be delayed in protest-affected areas.
