
Bengaluru braces for rising temperatures, IMD issues heat advisory
Bengaluru is set to experience warmer days ahead, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a maximum temperature of 35°C and a minimum of 20°C over the next 48 hours. According to Dr. Rajavel Manickam, Head of LACD at IMD, the city will have partly cloudy skies, but heat precautions are necessary, especially for vulnerable groups like infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
Meteorological data indicates light to moderate southeasterly winds over Karnataka. Minimum temperatures in the state varied from 13°C in Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, and Chintamani to 25°C in coastal Karnataka. In Bengaluru, HAL Airport and Kempegowda International Airport recorded 17-19°C, while the city’s minimum temperature ranged between 20-21°C. Over the past 24 hours, Haveri (+4.2°C), Bidar (+3.2°C), and Chitradurga (+2.1°C) saw a rise in minimum temperatures, while Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport recorded an increase of 2.4°C in maximum temperature.
Friday marked Bengaluru’s hottest day of 2025 so far at 34.6°C, exceeding the normal by 1.9°C. IMD advises residents to stay hydrated, dress in light-colored cotton clothing, avoid direct heat exposure, and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours. Additional precautions include using umbrellas or hats, ensuring proper ventilation, and monitoring weather updates.
