A 23-year-old businessman, Chandan P, has filed a police complaint alleging he was robbed of gold jewellery worth ₹3 lakh in a planned attack allegedly involving his longtime friend, Achal Nana. The incident took place on May 1, following a night out in Yelahanka, but the complaint was lodged on May 7 with Chikkajala police.
According to Chandan, Achal — who runs a café in JP Nagar — invited him for a get-together and insisted on a long drive. Along with another friend, Pavan, they headed out around 9:45 pm in Achal’s SUV, stopping at a bar and restaurant for food and drinks. Chandan noticed Achal frequently stepping out to take calls.
Around 1:30 am, Achal allegedly stopped the car suddenly, claiming it had been hit from behind. At that moment, two men on a scooter appeared, threatened Chandan at knifepoint, and robbed him of a 40g gold chain, 20g bracelet, and 9g ring.
Despite Chandan’s pleas to pursue the robbers, Achal and Pavan discouraged him, claiming the attackers could be part of a larger gang. Achal even urged Chandan not to involve the police.
Growing suspicious, Chandan eventually filed a complaint. Preliminary investigation and call records suggest that Achal may have orchestrated the robbery to recover financial losses from his struggling café business.
Police have registered a case under Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (extortion) and are currently on the lookout for Achal and his accomplices.
