Bengaluru Police have taken a cab driver into custody after multiple passengers accused him of extortion while traveling from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Following repeated complaints, authorities identified and detained the driver, initiating an investigation into his conduct.
One case involved a student who reported being threatened in the early hours of March 23. The student, who had booked a ride to Yelahanka New Town for ₹800, alleged that the driver halted near an apartment on Doddaballapur Road and demanded ₹2,837. Fearing harm, he transferred the amount online before being allowed to leave.
Another 18-year-old passenger faced a similar situation the same night while traveling to Tavarekere. A dispute over fare escalated near Mehkri Circle, leading both to the Chikkajala police station, where the student ultimately paid ₹800.
Both incidents occurred past midnight, and the vehicle involved bore the registration number KA-53-AB-5106. The primary complainant has requested legal action against the driver.
DCP (Northeast) Sajeeth VJ confirmed an extortion case has been filed, noting that while one matter was resolved, the other led to a formal complaint. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s owner, KC Annappa, is also under scrutiny. Though he claims to be unaware of the driver’s actions, authorities have summoned him for further questioning.
