The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested G.M. Kumar, Managing Director of BTV news channel, in connection with a fraud case. The police have secured his custody for five days for further interrogation.
Kumar was taken into custody on Thursday as he was arriving at court for an appearance. According to the police, “Ashwin Mahendra had filed a complaint against G.M. Kumar. An FIR was registered against Kumar in 2022 at Vijayanagar police station under IPC Section 402 (breach of trust) and Section 420 (cheating).”
In this case, Kumar had initially been granted bail by the High Court. However, Ashwin Mahendra approached the Supreme Court, which cancelled the bail and directed Kumar to surrender. Since then, Kumar had been evading arrest.
This case underscores the ongoing legal troubles for the media executive, with the police now set to conduct a thorough investigation during the five-day custody period.
