Bengaluru residents were greeted by a rainy Sunday morning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted consistent showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the day. The downpour brought a welcome dip in temperature, offering respite from the sweltering heat that had been creeping in.

The city, often dubbed India’s Silicon Valley, experienced a notable cool spell that residents enthusiastically celebrated online. One social media post capturing the drizzle over a housing society went viral, with the caption: “The weather this April in Bangalore has been so, so, so good. Garmi ekdum nahi compared to previous years. Pyaaz ke pakore wala weather ekdum!”

This cheerful mood follows the chaos caused by a heavy pre-monsoon downpour on April 19, which led to flooding and major traffic snarls in several parts of the city. Municipal teams remained on alert as Bengaluru’s drainage systems struggled to keep up with the sudden volume of water.

IMD has cautioned that more rainfall is on the way, with gusty winds (30–40 km/h) expected to accompany moderate rain and thunder-showers in Bengaluru Urban and nearby districts over the coming days. Authorities have advised residents to stay prepared for possible disruptions.

Here’s the IMD’s forecast:

  • April 20: 22°C – 33°C, cloudy with possible showers

  • April 21–23: 21°C – 33°C, partly cloudy

  • April 24–25: 21°C – 33°C, rain likely
