Bengaluru: A Bengaluru resident has gone viral on social media after taking a stand against motorists driving on the wrong side of the road near Mahadevapura, drawing widespread praise from netizens for promoting road discipline.
The resident shared the incident online, explaining that they encountered several vehicles travelling against the designated one-way direction on an already congested service road near More Supermarket in Mahadevapura while heading to work.
Resident refuses to give way
According to the post, the resident decided not to move aside and instead asked the wrong-side drivers to turn back and use the correct route.
Despite pointing out the clearly displayed one-way sign, several motorists, including auto-rickshaw drivers and office-goers, initially refused to accept that they were violating traffic rules.
The resident recounted challenging an auto-rickshaw driver who insisted the road was not one-way.
“I told him if there was no one-way board, I would pay him ₹1,000. But if there was, he had to apologise,” the resident wrote.
After being shown the traffic sign, the auto driver reportedly apologised.
Videos to be submitted to police
The resident also said they recorded videos of motorists driving on the wrong side and riding on footpaths. They plan to submit the footage to the Bengaluru Traffic Police, hoping action will be taken against the violators.
The individual acknowledged that blocking traffic may have inconvenienced some commuters but maintained that allowing wrong-side driving only worsens congestion and encourages unsafe road behaviour.

The post quickly gained traction, with many users applauding the resident’s determination to enforce traffic discipline.
Several commenters described the action as an example of responsible citizenship, saying Bengaluru needs more people willing to stand up against traffic violations. Others, however, cautioned that confronting offenders can sometimes be risky, especially if drivers become aggressive.
The incident has once again sparked discussions on road safety, traffic discipline and the need for stricter enforcement against wrong-side driving, a recurring issue on Bengaluru’s busy roads.
