Bengaluru: Heavy rains disrupted normal life in several parts of the city. In many places, low lying areas were flooded with rain and drainage water, causing inconvenience to the residents.
It can be recalled that for the past few days, the city has been receiving evening showers and according to the IMD forecast, the rain is expected to continue for a few more days.
Areas in East Bengaluru were the worst hit by the Monday night rains. Bannerghatta Road witnessed a huge traffic jam owing to the showers.
In Kodichikkanahalli near Bommanahalli, rain and drainage water entered at least 15 houses, forcing the residents to spend a sleepless night. They were not able to get BBMP support on time.
Heavy rainfall was also reported from Indiranagar, Hudi, Marathahalli, Whitefiled, Koramangala, Madiwala, Bommanahalli, Jayanagar, HSR Layout, Banashankari etc.
On the Indiranagar 100 feet road, a tree fell on a car, however, the driver escaped with minor injuries. The car was totally damaged in the incident. In the same area, two electric wires came in contact with each other, due to the high speed winds, causing a short circuit. A tree also caught fire and was doused by fire personnel.
In the BTM layout, areas where metro works are underway, witnessed some flooding. Drain water entering homes and water clogging were the common complaints during the rains.
Traffic was also thrown out of gear till about 9 PM, according to the traffic police.
