Bengaluru, Sept 7: The Karnataka government’s limited-time 50% rebate on traffic fines has triggered an overwhelming response from vehicle owners. In just 17 days since the scheme began on August 21, Bengaluru Traffic Police have collected ₹54.30 crore, settling 19.36 lakh violations.

On September 6 alone, citizens cleared 1.94 lakh challans worth ₹5.41 crore, officials said. The rebate scheme runs until September 12, 2025.

Massive jump from 2023

This year’s collection dwarfs the ₹5.6 crore raised during a similar drive in 2023, highlighting improved awareness and easier payment access. Citizens can clear dues via the KSP app, BTP ASTraM app, Karnataka One, Bangalore One centres, and walk-in counters.

Leaders also pay up

Even top politicians have joined the drive. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah cleared fines of ₹2,500 for seven traffic violations, while BJP state president B Y Vijayendra paid ₹3,250 to settle ten offences.

Police thank public for participation

The traffic police hailed the enthusiastic response:

“Thank you citizens, for availing the 50% challan discount and responsibly clearing your challans. Citizens proving responsibility isn’t just a word,” the department said.

The rebate, officials said, not only eases the burden on motorists but also helps clear a massive backlog of pending dues.
