Bengaluru: A committee will be constituted within a month to take a report on sugarcane harvesting and reduction in transportation costs, said Minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa and added further action would be taken on the basis of the same.

Addressing a press conference at the State BJP Office here on Monday December 12, he said a decision has been taken to give the dividends of sugarcane by-products to sugarcane growers. It has been decided to put Rs. 202 Crore in the account of farmers in the first instalment. Karnataka is the third state after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to pay dividends, he said.

In all, Rs. 19,624 Crore due to sugarcane growers has already been paid. Steps are being taken to revive all factories including MySugar. It has been decided to lay more emphasis on the production of Ethanol, which is a by-product of sugarcane. For this, the department is planning to implement a new Ethanol policy, he noted.
