A female sub-inspector from Bengaluru has been apprehended by the Karnataka Lokayukta police on allegations of accepting a bribe to suppress an ongoing criminal case, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The officer in question has been identified as Savithri Bai, serving at the Govindapura Police Station in Bengaluru. As per official reports from the Lokayukta team, Savithri allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1.25 lakh in exchange for filing a closure report in a case involving Mohammed Younus, who was accused of physically assaulting a woman.
Receiving a formal complaint regarding the bribery demand, the Lokayukta officials swiftly acted by laying a strategic trap. Savithri was caught in the act as she accepted the bribe, confirming suspicions of corruption. She was immediately taken into custody.
The accused officer has now been formally charged under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Authorities have initiated a deeper investigation to determine if other officials were involved or if this was a recurring pattern of misconduct.
This incident once again sheds light on the pressing need for transparent and accountable law enforcement systems, especially when officers misuse their power to manipulate justice for personal gain. The Lokayukta’s prompt action is being seen as a deterrent message against corruption within the force.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the case unfolds.
