A Bengaluru police sub-inspector, Santosh PG, has been suspended for allegedly deceiving a city-based jeweller into handing over 950 grams of gold under false pretenses. Santosh, then posted at Halasur Gate police station, claimed he needed the gold to showcase as “recovered property” for an inspection and promised to return it the same day—but didn’t for five years.
Jeweller Dhananjay, who owns Navakar Asseyer Centre on CT Street, waited in vain for Santosh to either return the gold or pay for it. After repeated excuses, the jeweller filed a complaint with DCP (West) S Girish, leading to an investigation by ACP Chandan Kumar. The findings confirmed the allegations, prompting the city police commissioner to suspend Santosh.
The officer has now been booked under IPC Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 409 (breach of trust by a public servant), and 420 (cheating).
In 2021, Santosh had issued a sale deed agreement for a property in his wife’s name as surety, later selling the site to someone else. He later promised ₹64.3 lakh in compensation but failed to pay. A cheque he issued to Dhananjay bounced, and when confronted, he allegedly threatened to frame the jeweller in a false case.
Notably, this is not Santosh’s first misconduct. In 2021, he and a head constable were suspended for misappropriating 266g of gold during a shop raid.
